The Tipping Point

Greed, Fraud and Murder...
Will destroy the company from within...

Heart-pumping and entertaining, readers of THE TIPPING POINT can’t help but keep moving forward until the end—and even then you will find yourself wanting more.
– C.A. Webb

“If you took Barbarians at the Gate and The Firm and blended them together with the best stories of Michael Chrichton and John Sandford, then you’d get The Tipping Point by Walter Danley. From the slopes of Aspen to Caribbean beaches, Danley’s writing is on point in any climate. This is a can’t miss thriller!”
– Mark Fadden, award-winning author of The Brink.

If Tom Burke had never died on the slopes of Aspen Mountain, Garth Wainwright wouldn’t have risked losing everything – for Wainwright never bought the “accident” theory. No accident, indeed, his corporate partner was an expert skier – Tom was murdered.

Nonetheless, Burke’s sudden death launched an avalanche, a “tipping point” as it were, which descended headlong into the lives of
Wainwright’s nine business partners who turned out to be twisted by greed, conspiracy – and murder.

At the company headquarters, Wainwright searches files and asks questions, obsessively trying to find the reason for Tom Burke’s death. Instead he finds evidence of a multi-million dollar fraud that more than hints at partner conspiracy. Then another partner is murdered.

If the fraud is exposed it may destroy the company, but unless Wainwright uncovers the killer, others will die. Believing the fraud and murders to be connected, Wainwright concocts a byzantine strategy to save the company, stop a killer, and – oh yes, save his fortune – all at once.

This murder mystery explores the nefarious motives and actions of the partners of the largest real estate investment firm in the country. Driven by greed and ego rather than filial bonds, their actions almost destroy the firm from within.

About The Author

Walter Danley Published Author

Walter Danley took 20 years to write The Tipping Point. It’s not just that he types slowly, but that the people who inspired the story, as well as the companies and transactions he experienced during his career in commercial real estate were not easy to recreate. The firm, the characters and events of the story never happened, and the syndication business of the 70s and 80s in The Tipping Point no longer exist, thanks to the Tax Reform Act of 1986. This legislation was meant to halt corrupt tax shelters, but instead it decimated a multi-billion dollar industry. The Tipping Point reflects his time.

Danley’s blue collar background is far from the high-flying characters of The Tipping Point. Born an Indiana Hoosier, Danley’s family moved to California when his machinist father got work in a WWII Defense plant. Danley served his country as Navy Hospital Corpsman, then in the Fleet Marine Force as a medic. Following an honorable discharge he sold wood products to the construction trades and attended night school college, until a client recruited him into commercial real estate, where he spent his working career on the investment side of the business.

Danley’s proudest accomplishments are his five grown sons. He credits the wonderful influence of their stepmother, Christopher Norris, Broadway, film, and television actress. Walter and Christopher were married for eighteen years during the boys’ formative years.

Danley is a veteran of four decades of real estate investments on a national platform. He authored and taught Creative and Unconventional Finance at many campuses of University of California. Walter returned to graduate school, in mid-career, at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management and earned an MBA.

Walter now lives in the Texas Hill Country, where he is working on the sequel to The Tipping Point, as well as his third novel, which he describes as an historical western with a fantasy twist.

  • Up-To-Date Thriller… … a highly intelligent intriguing read… real and enlightening …

  • This account of skullduggery and dirty dealing at the highest levels of a large corporation starts with a murder (the first of a good few) and identifies the murderer quite early on; the true mystery is not the ‘who-dunit’ or the ‘how-dunnit’, but the ‘why-dunnit’... It was well-set and sneakily set up, so bravo in laying the necessary character-building to make it work...

  • Serious Mystery Lovers ... each character has reasons to commit these heinous crimes; … guessing until the end. It grabs … right away and leads inexorably to an unexpected finish.

  • The Tipping Point by Walter Delaney is a thrilling mystery about, in his words, a serial killer after Cap Vest partners, drug abuse on the board, and millions dollars of stolen from them that they are going to have to try to keep SEC from finding out about to avert the pending crisis it would cause. add a little romance and you have an intense, time consuming five star read.

  • I enjoyed reading The Tipping Point. It grabbed me in the very first chapter and then I didn't want to put it down. It kept me guessing throughout, and that is what makes a murder mystery worth reading. The characters were introduced in such a way as to make them very believable, as was the story. A job well done by a first time author. I look forward to the next Danley novel.

  • Walter Danley’s protagonist, Garth Wainwright, is a driven man: Driven by ambition and blessed with those special competitive genes that transport a chosen few into the corporate boardroom... Danley sets terrific scenes—from the ski slopes to the Carribean— and has an ear for corporate jargon and interpersonal relationships... The plot spins on a dime and you’ll find yourself smiling.

  • When reading this financial crime (fiction) I was impressed by the story’s decent evolution. The characters are realistic and believable with all their flaws. The story is subtly written, making it difficult to put the book away. I had to, several times and – it was hard... A must read for all crime fans. I am looking forward to reading further books by Walter Danley, not only the Garth Wainwright series

  • A Well-Written Who-Done-It... It is my pleasure to recommend this book to any serious mystery book lover. It will grab the reader's attention right away and lead them inexorably to the unexpected finish. This book is worthy of five stars. Mr. Danley's work reminds one favorably of stories by such authors as Dashiell Hammett and James Anderson. Mr. Danley offered a review copy of The Tipping Point in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.
